Royals 2-6
Shrewsbury Juniors (League,
14-09-08)
(Hearle, Green)
Royals will look back on the last 15 minutes of this game and wonder
how they could gift the points to their opponents after battling for
so long. Four goals in the last 15 minutes meant that Shrewsbury
Juniors took the points, with the Royals ruing their missed
opportunity.
Royals were able to field a strong side for this game and they knew
their opponents would be a tough test. This was even more evident
when Shrewsbury took the lead after 8 minutes after having pushed
the Royals deep into their own half.
Five minutes later Royals hit back with a goal from Hearle, after a
move between Fielding and Lewis set him on his way.
Then Royals had a chance to take the lead after Smith was brought
down by the opposing goalkeeper and a penalty was awarded. Lewis
struck the penalty straight, and the keeper was able to save easily.
Royals then did take the lead on 28 minutes when Green stepped up
and placed a free kick in the top corner, to make the score 2-1.
Royals held their lead until 12 minutes into the second half, when
they conceded the equaliser. At that point enforced substitutions
were made when Agnew and Riley replaced Green and Fielding who had
to go to play for their school. Five minutes later Weynberg replaced
Baker.
Shrewsbury took advantage of these changes and hit the Royals hard.
Royals heads dropped and four quick goals meant that with a final
score of 2-6 the opposition took the points.
Royals can be satisfied though, that they battled hard and were
equal to one of the strongest teams in the league for all but 15
minutes of this game.
