Royals Match Report 2006-07
Royals in emphatic 12-0 opening day
victory
Royals 12-0 Orleton FC (League, 10-09-06)
(Bourne 3, Groom 2, Lewis 2, Carless-Turland 1, Holtz 1, Hearle 1, Smith,
OG)
Stretton Royals entertained Orleton FC in their first encounter of
the 2006-2007 season, and indeed their first competitive 11 a side
match ever. Royals had never lost to a side from Orleton, but all
teams were an unknown quantity at the start of the season, as they
may have recruited older players to boost their squad.
Once the match kicked off it did
not take long before the Royals found their feet and started to
control the game. It was as though they had been playing 11 a side
football for some time and once Smith had hit the back of the net
with the first goal, more goals soon followed. Orleton were unable
to put up much resistance as the strong midfield of Hearle, Miles,
Smith and Bourne prevented them from troubling the Royals' defence.
Brayne was outstanding at the
back, showing a new-found confidence and maturity, and with the
strength of Allan by his side it was virtually impossible for
Orleton to threaten. Lewis was his normal dangerous self causing
havoc for the opposition’s defence, whilst Groom provided adequate
support in the twin striker role.
Royals went in at half-time with a
commanding 8-0 lead, which enabled them to return for the second
half with several substitutions. Weynberg, Agnew, Carless-Turland,
Riley and Keugler were all introduced at intervals during this
period.
As the second half went on Royals
started to become overconfident and lost their shape. This resulted
in a scrappy last quarter of the game and is presented Orleton with
their best chance of the game. However, they were unable to
capitalise and punished the Royals.
The final score was 12-0 and
although the opposition for today's game was not the strongest,
Royals can take heart from a commanding performance, as you can only
beat what is put in front of you.
